EAD Production Delays due to COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the production of Employment Authorization Documents (Form I-765, EAD) has been delayed for the last several months.ā€Æ Normally you must have the card in hand to apply for employment and to meet I-9 registration requirements.

Due to a recent court decision you are now allowed to use the I-765 Approval Notice  (Form I-797, Notice of Action) as long as it was issued between December 1, 2019 through and August 20, 2020, as proof of your authority to work until the actual card is issued.

Potential USCIS Closure, Again

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)continues to request a $1.2 billion bailout from Congress to remedy their budget crises. As announced earlier this summer, without congressional funding,USCIS claims that it will not have sufficient funds to maintain its operations.

As a result  it may furlough more than 13,000 USCIS employees on August 30, 2020.

These furloughs will result in the loss of employment for thousands of U.S. workers and bring the immigration system to a standstill. Consideration should be given to any USCIS filing deadlines within the next several weeks, and efforts made to submit as soon as possible.
