The ban on non-Israelis entering the country has been extended to July 1

According to Globes, Israel's business news, and News 13, the Israel Airports Authority has notified airlines that the ban on non-Israelis entering Israel has been extended (for the second time) to July 1st, while Israelis returning from abroad must continue toself-isolate for two weeks.

Despite this notification, some hesitancy was noted in other official's statements in the new wake of the corona-virus outbreak in Israel, which may lead to aמ additional postponement of this new target date of July 1st.

As such, the Israeli Population and Immigration Authority director-general Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, himself a doctor - an oncologist and gynecologist, stated to be very circumspect about when the country's skies are likely to reopen: "It's easier to close borders than to open them" he said, adding that the authorities are now checking out what is happening in different countries and defining 'green countries' according to the data and the quality of the data or in other words the credibility of reporting.

In concluding his statement,Prof. Mor Yosef mentioned that “There is major hesitancy about bringing in people that bring with them a risk of coronavirus when it is clear that corona virus came here from abroad".

Green Countries Initiative

Israel is part of a new initiative led by Austria of relatively small countries that feel they have succeeded in beating Covid-19, for the time being.

The countries would open their borders between each other, to boost their tourist industry and help revive their economies. The first meeting of the 'immune countries alliance'took place last week online with the participation of Denmark, Greece, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, Australia, Austria, and Israel.

According to the reports, the countries might agree that as part of the opening of the borders there would be a commitment to basic precautions such as wearing masks in stores in all the countries (as already happens), a policy of wide spread testing, and closing borders for any possible outbreaks.

The countries also agreed on other hygienic measures like making wearing masks on flights compulsory and even blood tests for passengers for the swift discovery of the virus. The bloc is currently working on a road map to reopen internal borders, which some officials now say could be undermined if members of the initiative lift travel restrictions among each other first. In practice, this could make travel between Israel and Greece easier than between Greece and Italy, at least for a while.
